Comic book age checker: Golden, Silver, Bronze or Modern Age by cover year
Type the year on a comic's cover. See which age it is, where collectors and price guides draw the line differently, and what to pick in eBay's Era item specific.
Comic book ages by year
| Age | Cover years | eBay's Era value | Where counts differ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platinum Age | 1897 to 1937 | Platinum Age (1897-1937) | Some guides start it in 1882, with a Victorian Age from 1828 before it. |
| Golden Age | 1938 to 1955 | Golden Age (1938-55) | Many end it in 1956, and some call 1945 or 1948 to the mid 1950s the Atomic Age. |
| Silver Age | 1956 to 1969 | Silver Age (1956-69) | Many start it with Showcase #4, cover dated October 1956, and end it in 1970 (Fantastic Four #102, September 1970) or June 1973 (the death of Gwen Stacy). |
| Bronze Age | 1970 to 1983 | Bronze Age (1970-83) | Often run 1970 to 1985, the year of Crisis on Infinite Earths. |
| Copper Age | 1984 to 1991 | Copper Age (1984-1991) | Not every guide uses it. Some run it 1984 to 1992 or 1985 to 2000; others start the Modern Age in 1985. |
| Modern Age | 1992 to now | Modern Age (1992-Now) | Starts in 1985 for guides with no Copper Age. |
The ages have no fixed edges. The years here are the ones eBay's Era values carry; price guides and collectors do not all agree, so a cover date near an edge can be read either way.
The age on eBay
eBay's Comic Books category has an Era item specific, picked from the six values above. Point and Sell fills it in from the comic's year and writes the end year in full, as Silver Age (1956-1969); eBay keeps that spelling and its Era filter finds it.
The rest of a comic's item specifics: eBay item specifics for comics. Is it a key: the comic key issue checker.
Point and Sell turns phone photos of a box into eBay listings, and fills in Era from each comic's year. Start free.
