eBay bulk upload CSV checker

Upload the CSV you are about to send to eBay's bulk upload (File Exchange, or Seller Hub Reports) and see, row by row, what eBay would refuse or get wrong, with the fix.

Up to 2 MB and 2,000 rows. No sign-in, and your file is not saved.

No file to hand? Download a sample file with mistakes in it and check that.

What it checks

  • That the header has an Action column, and that each row's action is one eBay knows (Add, Revise, Relist, End and the rest). Lines that start with Info or #INFO, the notes in eBay's own templates, are skipped.
  • What a new listing needs: a category ID, a title, a price, a description and at least one photo. A Revise, Relist or End row needs the listing's item number.
  • Titles over 80 characters.
  • Item specifics (the C: columns) over 65 characters, each name between | marks on its own.
  • Prices that are not plain numbers or are under $0.99, and a quantity under 1 on a new listing.
  • Category IDs that are not numbers, and 63080, the deprecated comics category.
  • Store categories typed as names instead of numbers.
  • More than 24 photos on a row.
  • Condition IDs typed as words, condition descriptions over 1,000 characters and custom labels over 50.
  • In eBay's categories DVDs & Blu-ray Discs (617), Music CDs (176984), Cassettes (176983), Video Games (139973), Collectible Figures (149372), Records (176985), Comic Books (259104), Books (261186): the condition IDs eBay takes there (comics aside), the item specifics eBay requires, values that are not on eBay's own list where eBay takes only its list, and C: columns eBay does not have, which it turns into custom fields.
  • A file saved as Windows-1252 whose Action column says UTF-8, a file with two byte order marks, and rows with more cells than the header has columns.

What it does not check

Whether your shipping, return and payment policy names match the ones on your account, whether your photo links work, and anything else eBay decides from your account. eBay still decides each row on its own when you upload; its upload report says which rows went live. The File Exchange guide has how the upload and its report work.

Point and Sell builds this file from your photos and checks it before you get it. Start free.
