eBay Promoted Listings calculator: what an ad rate costs and what you keep

Type what something sold for and your general ad rate. See eBay's normal fees, the ad fee, and what you keep with the ad and without it.

How eBay charges a general ad

  • Only when the sale is attributed to the ad. eBay counts a sale as the ad's when any buyer clicked the promoted listing's ad in the 30 days before the sale and the listing was promoted both at the click and at the sale. The buyer who bought does not have to be the one who clicked. With no click on the ad in those 30 days, you pay no ad fee, and what you keep is the "without the ad" figure.
  • On the whole order: the ad rate is a percent of the total sale amount, the item price, the shipping and the sales tax, as eBay's final value fee is. eBay's page also names "any other applicable fees"; this page counts the price, shipping and tax.
  • At the rate in effect when it sells. Change the rate and the next sale pays the new one.
  • You choose the rate, from 2% to 100% of the total sale amount.
  • eBay's normal fees do not change with the ad: the ad fee is added on top of the final value fee and the per-order fee.
  • The break-even ad rate is the highest rate at which the sale still leaves you at least $0.00 after the fees, the postage and what the item cost you. Type a cost to see it.
  • A store, Top Rated Plus and a buyer outside the US are worked as the eBay fee calculator works them; it explains each one and lists every category's rate. Top Rated Plus takes nothing off the ad fee.

This page works a general (cost per sale) ad only. Not counted here: an eBay Store's monthly subscription; and the extra fees a below-standard seller pays, or a seller rated very high for not-as-described returns.

Weighing an offer instead? The eBay Best Offer calculator takes an ad rate too.
