How eBay works out the fee
- The final value fee is charged on the whole order, not the item's price: the price, the shipping the buyer paid, and the sales tax eBay collected. That is why free shipping and charged shipping cost the same in fees for the same total.
- The rate is the category's, up to $7,500 an item without a store or with a Starter Store, up to $2,500 with a Basic Store or higher, and 2.35% on the part above.
- The per-order fee is $0.30 on an order of $10.00 or less and $0.40 above it. On a dollar comic it is a big share of the fee: a $1.00 comic with $5.00 shipping and 7% tax pays $1.15 in fees, and $0.30 of it is the per-order fee.
- Top Rated Plus takes 10% off the final value fee, but not off the per-order fee.
- A general promoted listing adds its rate on the same whole order when anyone clicked its ad in the 30 days before the sale and the listing was still promoted when it sold.
- The international fee is 1.65% of the same whole order when the buyer's delivery address or registered address is outside the US, unless the item ships through eBay International Shipping.

- Comic books and memorabilia: 13.25% without a store (or with a Starter Store), 12.35% with a Basic Store or higher
- Books, and graphic novels listed in Books: 15.3% with or without a store
- Magazines listed in Books & Magazines: 15.3% with or without a store
- Vinyl records: 13.6% without a store (or with a Starter Store), 12.7% with a Basic Store or higher
- Video games (discs and cartridges): 13.6% without a store (or with a Starter Store), 12.7% with a Basic Store or higher
- Funko Pops and other toys: 13.6% without a store (or with a Starter Store), 12.7% with a Basic Store or higher
- Trading cards and collectible card games: 13.25% without a store (or with a Starter Store), 12.35% with a Basic Store or higher
- Most other categories: 13.6% without a store (or with a Starter Store), 12.7% with a Basic Store or higher
The fee follows the category the listing is in, not what the item is. A magazine or a trade paperback listed under Comic Books & Memorabilia pays the comic rate; the same magazine listed under Books & Magazines pays the books rate.
Not counted here: an eBay Store's monthly subscription; the extra fees a below-standard seller pays, or a seller rated very high for not-as-described returns; and several items one buyer checks out together with the same shipping method, which pay one per-order fee for all of them.
