eBay vs Whatnot fees

Type one sale. See what eBay, Whatnot and Mercari each keep, and what you keep on each.

How it is worked out

  • What you keep is the sale price, less the fees and what the item cost you. The shipping the buyer pays is taken to pay for the label on all three.
  • eBay charges its category's rate on the whole order: the price, the shipping and the sales tax (2.35% on the part over $7,500), plus a per-order fee. It counts no eBay Store, no promoted listing, no Top Rated Plus and a US buyer.
  • Whatnot charges its commission on the sale price only, and payment processing of 2.9% plus $0.30 on everything the buyer pays.
  • Mercari charges a selling fee of 10% of the price and the shipping the buyer pays, with no payment processing fee, on listings made or updated since 6 January 2025.

Not counted: an eBay Store's subscription, promotions on any of the three, and Mercari's fee to cash out instantly.
